Anemi apartments – Paphos – Cyprus
16th May 1999, one week, flying from Bristol. Booked through First Choice. Apartments were set between a ‘gentleman’s club’ and a strip club. Not sure what the difference was. Still, it turned out to be very well situated for the main Paphos town.
Had to put up with constant calls from reception to get us to attend an on-site BBQ, which we didn’t go to but they still tried to charge us for. I think they also tried to charge someone else for phone calls they didn’t make as well. Most places we visited we went by taxi as it was so cheap. This was before the change to the euro.
Visited the Tomb of the Kings. The area was very hot and dry with very little shade, and, at that time there was very little development along the road. We also went to Coral Bay which was again very undeveloped and is now a very busy tourist area.
Our favourite bar was the O Café bar where we spent a lot of time and Chris Ford was in some way helping them with some IT stuff. Food and drink was very cheap and we got through a lot of both, including introducing Derek to cocktails and John to karaoke with Chris.
We booked onto a ‘jeep safari’ for a tour around various places, up the Kykkos Monastery, to the top of the Troodos mountains, to a waterfall. All being driven by someone who seemed to have been on day release from some safe unit. Apparently our holiday rep had informed the tour company that we wanted an ‘interesting driver’ so they took this as meaning – nutter with no thought for safety or human life.
