Completely new holiday destination- Croatia. What a beautiful place and friendly people. Excellent food, it’s Venetian heritage is very much in evidence with the food and architecture.

For us it was interesting to try somewhere completely new. No preconceptions or expectations, just hoped it would be as good as all our other choices. With a flight time of about two and a half hours it’s a nice easy journey from Bristol. We took a taxi when we went into Poreč (pronounced porridge) and we had the same big limo turn up each time, with video screens and thumping euro house music (possibly also a glitter ball, but I maybe imagining that) I also think the driver was called Igor, again this may be a miss memory.

The apartments and the area around were kept immaculately clean, the cleaners even cleaned the underside of the bins that no-one ever saw. The apartment we had, had a little raised area where the bed was and a little kitchen / sitting area with a balcony out to the garden area. There were black squirrels in the trees and massive park area outside that had all been man made, along with the beach.

There was little restaurant in the park, and a crazy golf course which we obviously had to play. I managed to talk Kate into joining me on a kayak out in the bay. She lasted about two minutes. We did find a go-kart place as well. We had dinner in Poreč every day I think. Loads of different places to choose from. Including the enormous pizza place, I think the biggest was 1.2m wide. The ice cream was all like Italian gelato but a bit creamier.

We took a day out to visit Venice which is practically opposite Poreč, I have to say I preferred being in Croatia, especially somewhere like Rovinj that still has loads of Venetian buildings. Venice was too busy and hot and expensive. Absolutely everything was overpriced, a bottle of water was about £3. It was all very pretty and the architecture is stunning but, I’m just not made for crowds and heat. We did get to see dolphins swimming neat the ship as we were crossing the med though.

We visited a church in Poreč that we christened the Church of the Juggling Jesus. We took a water taxi back one time and I got to do the driving, which was nice.
